Hillary Hickland, a Republican elected in 2025 to represent Texas’s 55th House district, has used her social media platform to comment on issues of privacy, local journalism, and school policies. In a series of posts made in early September 2025, Hickland shared her views with her followers.
On September 4, 2025, Hickland expressed support for Senate Bill 8 (SB8), stating: “Our daughters deserve safe spaces. Protecting women’s privacy should never be controversial — but if it takes a fight, I’m ready. I wish we didn’t need SB8, but I’m celebrating its passage.”
Later the same day, she praised local journalism by writing: “Local news at its best: informing the community of an issue, driving engagement and following the journey to a resolution. Keep it up, @tdtnews” This post highlights her recognition of the role played by community-focused reporting.
On September 6, 2025, Hickland commented on school policy regarding book selection: “I wish schools would take this same extreme caution when it comes to inappropriate books!”
Hickland succeeded Hugh Shine as representative for Texas’s 55th House district after being elected in 2025.
