Hillary Hickland, a Republican elected in 2025 to represent Texas’s 55th House district, used her Twitter account on August 5, 2025, to address recent legislative actions and respond to political developments in the state.
In her first post that day, Hickland commented on recent flooding in the Hill Country region and legislative efforts aimed at addressing future emergencies. She wrote, “In response to the tragic Hill Country flooding, I filed two important bills aimed at strengthening safety standards and improving emergency preparedness — so our communities are better protected in the future. But instead of doing their jobs, Texas Democrats fled the state.” (August 5, 2025).
Later that afternoon, Hickland posted a brief message: “Round ‘em up!” (August 5, 2025).
Shortly after, she referenced two public figures in another tweet: “Beto and Soros. That tracks.” (August 5, 2025).
Hickland began her term in the Texas State House following her election in 2025, succeeding Hugh Shine as representative for District 55. Her comments come amid heightened political tensions in Texas; Democratic legislators have previously left the state during contentious legislative sessions to block certain bills from advancing.
