City of Belton issued the following announcement on Oct. 26.
The City of Belton has awarded 30 COVID-19 relief grants to small businesses operating within the city limits. The grant awards of $2,000 each were made possible through the Coronavirus Relief Fund.
“The impact of the pandemic upon small business is significant, and I’m so pleased that the federal government made these funds available locally and that we’ve been able to help so many Belton businesses,” Mayor Marion Grayson, said.
Thirty-five businesses submitted applications for the grant. Five of the 35 applicants were ineligible because they were located outside the Belton city limits. A total of $61,273 was available to assist businesses in what is Phase I of coronavirus relief funding for the City.
The following Belton businesses have been awarded $2,000 each from the Belton Small Business Grant program:

The City of Belton was allocated $1,225,455 under the 2020 Cares ACT. The first phase of funding ($254,091) was immediately available, and $61,273 of that initial allotment was authorized for business grants. The rest of Phase I funding was authorized for medical and public health related expenses. Once Phase I funds are expended, additional small business grants would be available during Phase II funding.
The grant awards were hand delivered to businesses by Tourism and Retail Coordinator, Judy Garrett.
“It is humbling to hand out these grants. The business owners are so grateful,” Garrett said.
On September 8, 2020, the Belton City Council authorized Phase 1 of the City of Belton Small Business Grant Program, and contracted with the Central Texas Council of Governments (CTCOG) to assist in administering the grant.
