U.S. Rep. Roger Williams (R-Texas) has called for school districts impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic to receive financial relief in future coronavirus legislation.
Earlier this month, Williams sent a bipartisan letter with U.S. Rep. Mike Levin (D-California) to the House Appropriations Committee. The lawmaker, whose Congressional district includes the Killeen Independent School District, said the federal Impact Aid is essential for children nationwide to receive the best education possible.
“The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic extend far beyond the virus itself and we must equip impacted schools across Texas and our nation to effectively navigate this unprecedented challenge,” Williams said on his website. “As the Fort Hood and Killeen areas continue to grow, it is vital they receive increased federal assistance to educate the growing Central Texas student populations."
Williams thanked Levin for joining in his effort.
