There were six American Indian students enrolled in the Academy ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 25% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that the Academy ISD schools welcomed 1,835 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 0.3% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

The Academy ISD roughly covers schools within Bell County and has a main office in Little River.

Among the four schools in the Academy ISD schools, Academy High School recorded the highest enrollment of American Indian students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of four students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
