Pershing Park Elementary School released students early on Dec. 18 so they could officially open their new school.
The new Killeen ISD school, which is now ready for students to attend when classes resume, is described by educators as "new and pretty." When the school ended the 2020 fall semester, teachers led their students to the new school building for their first rounds.
“Everything is new and pretty and these kids deserve that,” first-grade teacher Cosper said. She and the rest of the school community have watched for a year as the new school rose up behind the longtime campus in the middle of Killeen. “It’s been fun to watch it being built. We saw welding and bulldozers. We saw them pour concrete.”
Pershing Park leadership said everything has become "real."
"Teachers have finally been able to get into their rooms," Principal Jessica Taylor said. “Our kids have been dying for their field trip to the new campus.”
